From vineyard practices to winemaking to restaurant operations, The Family Coppola places a heavy emphasis on sustainability.
Vineyard
At Francis Ford Coppola Winery, all of our planted acres are sustainably farmed and certified through the California Sustainable Winegrowing Alliance.
Our vineyards use leading water conservation practices including aerial imagery, weather stations, soil monitoring probes, smart scheduling, and drip irrigation.
Habitat
We have increased vineyard biodiversity with bird boxes, diversified plant species through cover crop trials, beehives, and better soil conservation to improve the Russian River watershed fish habitat.
With the active presence of these beneficial insects, owls, birds, and soil fauna to combat pests, biodiversity in the vineyards has flourished.
Water
We have reduced water use throughout every aspect of our winery operations. All water on-site is recycled and reused for site irrigation. We use leading water conservation practices in the wine cellar and in the vineyards.
The Grower Relations team at Francis Ford Coppola Winery has developed and nurtured long-standing relationships with a network of more than 150 neighboring grape growers.
To better enhance sustainability efforts throughout this grower network, we pay a bonus price per ton for grapes that are certified sustainable. Additionally, each year after harvest, the viticulture and winemaking team meets with each of their partners on a one-on-one basis to discuss the outcome of the wines and to set future goals.
